  Welcome To Gender Equity Program: Promoting Improved Livelihood for Informal   Sector Workers

CSC’s successful efforts working with the informal sector over the decades was recognized by USAID and the organization was therefore granted the “Promoting Improved Livelihood for Informal Sector Workers” Project under the Gender Equity Program (GEP) Cycle-7A through Aurat Foundation on July 7, 2014 for the period of one year which was then extended till November 2015. The project’s main aim was to add value to products made by women home based workers, by providing them technical skill development and product improvement trainings to help them expand their work and income.

CSC is implementing the project “Promoting Improved Livelihood for Informal Sector Workers” under Gender Equity Program of Aurat Foundation by the support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the district of Lahore. The project aims to add value to the products of those women who are independent home based women workers, by providing them with technical skill development and product improvement approach to widen the horizons for their income spectrum.

The project organized 75 Home Based Women Workers (HBWWs) into six Town-Level Committees in the district of Lahore. Skill Development Trainings and sessions are being held for the six HBWWs committees to endow the beneficiaries with ample marketing competitive skills and product refinement. Distributions of 75 Trail Packs are to be made which compromises of the respective raw materials required by each beneficiary/group in order to provide them a boost to begin production independently. Awareness raising sessions and advocacy seminars on gender dynamics and Home Based Workers’ rights are being conducted to help them understand the legal rights of women in the society.

More importantly the project has helped in creating linkages of in interested HBWWs with social welfare department. Through these linkages benefits such as insurances, pregnancy benefits, paid leaves, health facilities, medical coverage, and death pensions are being provided to the registered HBWWs.
